Last year, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller talked about Sony’s plans for Spider-Man and their universe of marvel characters. one of the things they mentioned was that there would be live-action television series set in the Spider-Verse, and Amazon Prime might be their home. A new report reveals that Sony Pictures, one of the major studios without their own streaming service, is in talks with Amazon to bring all of the series to their platform. Essentially, Sony pictures is copying the marvel and Netflix collaboration that gave us Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. While it’s unclear how this group of projects may tie into the larger Spider-Verse, to include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU. Yet, it does appear that, at least, these series will all take place in a shared continuity.
While Sony has the rights to Spider-Man, they also have the rights to hundreds of characters who’ve premiered in the pages of his comic. (Others, however, like the Punisher are under the auspices of Disney and Marvel.) This is why Venom, Carnage, and Morbius the Living Vampire are heading their own films. We also know that Sony pictures is at work on the sequel to Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse, which many end up being the lynchpin of Sony’s larger multiverse of characters. Multiverses are the hot new thing in live-action and animated comic book projects. marvel said the multiverse is a big part of the future of the MCU going forward. and DC seems to be embracing the multiverse first with crisis On infinite Earths on the CW and now the forthcoming Flash film starring Ezra Miller.

Yet, the first series won’t focus on Spider-Man, but rather another character from the pages of his comics: Silk.
As Deadline.com reports:
“The first… in development at the studio, is Silk. Lauren Moon, a writer on Sony TV’s Netflix series Atypical, wrote the TV adaptation based on the Korean American comic book superhero, created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
“Silk would mark one of the first comic book series led by an Asian American character. There have been many Asian comic book characters in TV series and in film.”
The particulars of the Sony deal say that they have the right to use Spider-Man in films, live-action TV shows, and animated features and series (though the episodes must be longer than 44 minutes). So, it’s possible that Spidey will exist in the universe of the television series, but perhaps as a character that our central characters don’t know. Of course, they could also just let Silk, and her spider-based powers, exist on its own. She could be the “spider-person” of her slice of the Spider-Verse.
